Steve Smollett was born in Nassau, Bahamas and graduated at Queen’s College in Nassau. “I loved art in school and had really great art teachers, "Tom Hill and Bob Brome". "They both encouraged me to pursue a career in art”. In his last
year of school, he was hired to paint all the large wall murals at the Salty the Seal Lion Movie Studios at the Montague Hotel in Nassau. After graduation and obtaining a G.C.E. ‘A’ Level certificate in Art, he had planned to attend Art College in England. Soon after graduation and visiting the college in Hastings England, he met his future wife and founded a "Cash and Carry" food supply business called Nassau Portion Control with his father, and later in his career going on as founder also of the Cost Right Wholesale Club. The decision was made to cancel further studies at Art College, and stay at home, get married and build a family and a career in the food industry locally.
While working, he trained himself extensively on Computer Graphics and created a computer animation production company. He also designed and constructed various shopping centres, and retail stores. Provided the design for many private labels for local product lines and logos for local companies also.
Now, having retired from retailing, Steve has turned his focus back to his love of painting and art. Public exhibitions
of his Art have been in England and locally in the Bahamas. Most of the paintings that have been created have been sold to private collections.
Smollett’s choice of painting medium is brushed oil on canvas. But he also enjoys using palette
knife, pen and ink, sculpting with metal and wood, photography, computer digital art and music.
